Me! Me! Me! Museletter "renaissance negresse Megabus Tour"

Me! Me! Me! A Cassendre Xavier Museletter

The "renaissance negresse Megabus Tour" Ediccione, if you will. (As it were.)

Monday, September 30, 2013

Greetings, Friends!

Thank you so much for your donations to my GoFundMe online fundraiser campaign http://www.gofundme.com/3ik8b8! Because of you, I was able to move out of my apartment after my partner of four years passed away and I went into a serious depression and short hospital stay.

I put my belongings into storage and am now staying with relatives.

I shared with you that I've been having difficulty dealing with my bipolar disorder and various aforementioned life stressors.

I apologize for having waited so long to post an update. It's been very overwhelming to have yet another move, and it's just been very difficult to write regularly.

But I have been taking steps and making progress.

I'm happy to report that I've decided to create a Megabus tour for myself and my music!

I started thinking about this in December 2012, and contacted Rory Sullivan http://rorysullivanmusic.com, another musician doing a Megabus tour, to get ideas. I've also begun networking with folks hither and yon to select where the renaissance negresse is going next.

Next stop: Ann Arbor, Michigan! October 11th through October 28, 2013!

I'm looking to perform a couple of house concerts in that area, so if you or someone you know is interested, contact me via email at cxmusic(at)gmail.com. I'd also be willing to consider other venues including coffeehouses, bars, colleges, universities, etc.

Over the next few days I will be adding details to this announcement, and changing the GoFundMe budget that is the 6-month campaign.

I thank you dearly and muy muchly for your kind and continued support of my art/work, and therefore, life.

In art and community and with much appreciaccione,

If You're Feeling Overwhelmed...

Dear friendlettes,

I wanted to share some advice I posted on a friend's Facebook timeline. I knew Katie when I worked at Arnold's Way Raw Vegetarian Cafe & Educational Center in Lansdale, PA in 2007. She's just started her own jewelry making business and said she'd been feeling overwhelmed. I replied:

Breathe. :-)  I like to think whenever I'm overwhelmed that it's a sign I'm getting a lot done in some area I haven't noticed yet. Sometimes it's internal (thoughts, progress, etc.) In your case, I'm betting all that inventory buying and preparing, etc. Sorry you're feeling overwhelmed! Also, one thing that also helps me when I'm feeling overwhelmed and not doing anything (that's my thing - if there's too much to do, I freeze and do nothing), is what I learned from my teacher
Doreen Virtue's book "I'd Change My Life if I Had More Time: A Guide to Making Dreams Come True." She went from being a physically unfit full-time mom to a physically fit full-time mom who writes bestselling books. She went to college and did all kinds of things she didn't think she could do because she didn't have enough time or self-esteem. She says to just do one little thing, when you're feeling overwhelmed. I don't know if you've tried that already (betcha have!) but it's really helped me a lot! I wrote this more for someone else who may visit your timeline. I kinda feel like you don't really need it, but they might be helped to learn about Doreen and her work. Thanks, Katie, and I hope you're feeling less overwhelmed real soonishlike!! Hugs! :-) <3

I hope this helps YOU, too!

Very affectionatement,

CX

renaissance negresse Raw Tip: Carrot Pulp (Plus Trivia!)

Greetings, my dearlings!

Here's something for you and your colon!

Renaissance Negresse RAW TIP - CARROT PULP (BONUS: TOTALLY USEFUL TRIVIA!)
I used the carrot pulp I saved last night from juicing. I remembered that when I lived in Arnold N. Kauffmans raw vegan and raw-supportive collective household in Lansdale and worked at Arnold's Way Vegetarian Raw Cafe & Health Center, I used to chop collards into the pulp, and make my own dressing into a delicious meal. This time, I just put in salad dressing. I'm really glad I remembered to do this, and not waste el pulp-o. Did you know that fiber in raw plant foods is much better for you than fiber in cooked wheat, bran, etc.? According to the famous 80-10-10 book I just borrowed from the library, plant fiber has water and is designed to cleanse our intestines gently, whereas bran and other cooked grain fiber contains no water and is rough on the intestines, scratching our innards so they create a protective coating.
Anyhoo, I'm going to try to eat all the pulp I have from carrot juicing, freezing whatever's extra. Maybe at some point, I'll get creative with it, fixin' and dressings-wise, but for now, that plus dressing in a bowl is enough for my body to really appreciate. Additionally, I can tell that even though most of the juice has been extracted from it, there are still enough nutrients to make it worth it. I feel better.
TRIVIA:
1) Carrot pulp is the basic ingredient in tuna substitutes at raw and vegan restaurants.
2) Potassium, for hypertensives and most people on the high sodium S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) operates as a mood stabilizer. Meaning, if you're all tense and living a high pressure life, or have stress in your life, potassium will mellow you out significantment.
3) Vitamin A (which carrot juice is rich in) is very helpful in relieving PMS symptoms.
Don't say I never learned ya nuthin'!

renaissance negresse Raw Vegan Tip: Kale Koffee

Kale Koffee:

I've been extremely underslept as of the last three days and have recently revived the following recipe from  my "Green Smoothie Raw Blog" (popular during 2007 when I was working at Arnold's Way Raw Vegetarian CafĂ© and Education Center in Lansdale, PA. I've also been making this for my brother who is often working late or early hours, and has found kale koffee to be more effective than coffee in keeping him alert and energized.

So, here again is that recipe, text below, with source link: http://cassendrexavier.blogspot.com/2007/10/green-smoothie-blog-day-15-of-90.html?zx=99617db6093cce4b. Enjoy!

"Here very quickly is a recipe (my first raw drink recipe!) for something I prepared a few months ago when I was at a very stressful and long recording session, ironically enough, for my guided meditation "relaxation" CDs "Affirmations for Survivors: Self-Love" and "Affirmations for Survivors: Spirituality"!
The session went from 8pm to 5am and I, not a night person, wasn't tired at all. In fact I had all this energy and I was sure I'd discovered a rad new, real "energy drink". It also produces feelings of euphoria.
I realized that if most Americans used this concoction instead of coffee, it would be an amazing thing to watch! Try it and see how YOU feel!

Kale Koffee / Kale Water

Equipment needed:
average kitchen blender
fine sieve or clean cloth (like a tee shirt) for straining the fibers out of the drink
1 large portable container for your drink

Ingredients:
1 bunch or 1 lb of kale (a nutrient and cholorophyll, protein-building, cancer & disease-preventing leafy green)
spring or filtered water as needed

Optional: lemon, lime, or a very small amount of RAW/fresh-squeezed fruit juice for flavoring (not pasteurized which is boiled for a long time)

Directions:
1. Fill the blender almost halfway with water
2. Tear 3 or more large leaves of kale into small pieces and put into blender almost about 2 inches from the top
3. Put lid on tightly
4. Blend at a very high speed for at least 1 whole minute until it's very smooth
5. Repeat process until you have as much concentrated liquid as you will need for the day
6. Run liquid through strainer or cloth
7. Dilute liquid to a darkish green for "Koffee" and lighter green for "Water".

Drink all day or night as needed for energy and/or hydration."

In glowing health,

Cassendre Xavier

Spiders and Friendly Shadows

I'm sitting at a window sill, writing with my laptop resting on it, when I suddenly notice movement. Ak! A spider! It's tiny, tan, and in a pretty sizable web less than 6 inches from the laptop, and a little over a foot from my handal reggione. I was going to finger-stomp it dead, dead, dead, when I remembered: Spiders are good. They kill stuff we don't like, such as skeeters and more. So I'm leaving it be, and as I do so, I noticed it has scampered off away from my view. Damn thing's more afeared of The Big Humyn than I was of it.
It also made me think of the shadow. Our shadow sides. How we always want to kill the things we don't like about ourselves, when we would be so much better off noticing how those things help us. Yep. That there'n was what I was thinkin'. Since you asked. You are so nosey!
I just thanked the spider for doing a good job of killing the bugs around my winduh. I have never gotten a mosquito bite here, and I'm pretty sure Spider's a big reason why.And I apologized for interrupting its nap, letting it know I'm gonna be here a while. Writing about my Shadow, among other helpful things!

HEALTHY LOVE FEELS GOOD

Regardless of what you have experienced in the past, or what you may have misguidedly told yourself, it is possible for you to find love that makes your heart feel good, all the time. Healthy love causes no pain. Healthy love only comforts and inspires, no matter who you are or what has happened to you. Healthy love never, ever hurts. So, stay focused, intuitive, and in action until you find healthy love, or it finds you! <3

Artist Have More Energy...

ARTIST INSPIRATION: The more you are doing what you love, the less tired you become. This includes physical exhaustion as well as general boredom. People who are pursuing and/or living their passions have seemingly boundless energy and often need to be reminded by their loved ones to take a break. When you are doing what you love, you have a lot of energy to continue. So, if you're feeling tired, or bored, take a look around you, see if you're doing enough of what you love. And if you're not, start to make some changes, today. :-) --the renaissance negresse (Cassendre Xavier, Founder & Director of the Black Women's Arts Festival, http://BWAFphilly.homestead.com)

renaissance negresse: Orgasmic Childbirth & Tantric Pain Relief

THE renaissance negresse TALKS ORGASMIC CHILDBIRTH & TANTRA AS SENSUAL PAIN RELIEF

Dear Friends:

I want to share this video with you: Orgasm During Childbirth http://youtu.be/8EQ_-irO50w

In reading the comments, I'm amazed more people don't see this (sexually pleasurable childbirth) as being natural, common, and normal as I do. What about it doesn't make sense? To me, it's all about movement, breathing, and sensation in a sexual organ. Pain or no pain, how is it there's not a possibility for extreme pleasure there? I know several wimmin who have had this experience, and I'm thrilled to have had a female lover whose mother had an orgasm while giving birth to her. Do you know how empowering that is? For me to hear that? Let alone for my friend to be that persun, let alone for her mother to have had that experience in the 1970s, let alone for her mother to have had the kind of relationship with her daughter to have told her? And for the story to have been passed along to me and now you're hearing it? That's womon power. Thank you, Godddess!

If after this video, you're interested in learning more about transforming pain into pleasure using breathing techniques, I highly recommend the works of Barbara Carrellas, at www.urbantantra.org, especially her two CDs, How to Become a Sexual Healer, and Meeting Your Inner Lover, both of which I own, cherish, and am inspired by. Using her works, you can turn even an intense procedure at the doctor's office into a much easier experience!

renaissance negresse's Raw Vegan Meal Substitutes

THE renaissance negresse RAW VEGAN TIP: SURPRISING MEAL SUBSTITUTES:

1) Olive Oil:
When you're food shopping, one of the best investments you can make is to buy a large bottle of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. You can carry a small bottle with you when you travel or spend the day running errands. The oil can be used as a moisturizer as well as a very quick and lightweight meal substitute. Two tablespoons will give you energy, vitamins, enzymes, and curb hunger for several hours.

2) Coconut Oil:
Similarly, cold or expeller pressed extra virgin coconut oil, taken several times a day in similar quantity will also provide vitamins, enzymes, and curb hunger. However, cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil will give you much more energy, burn calories and make you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, and act as a mild but effective anti-depressant. It is also solid in not-too-warm room temperature, thereby being easier to transport.

3) Pepitas (pumkin seeds):
These, taken raw, are naturally very effective at eliminating intestinal parasites, which are very common among those who mix starches with proteins, or live with animals. They're tastier than eating oils, still rich in fats, and supply fiber as well as vitamins and minerals.

4) Flaxseeds:
Carry a small bag and teaspoon, and eat two or three teaspoons whenever you feel hungry, which won't be often, because these are so rich in fat. Flaxseeds are rich in Omega3s which also are very good anti-depressants. It's important to chew them very well, to a creamy consistency, for maximum benefit.

With all of these, be sure to up your water intake, as they both require more water to process as cause your body to lose fat, which is a process aided by your body's increased hydration. More water all around will maximize the benefits of substituting one or two of your meals with these raw foods every once in a while. Don't say I never learned ya nothin'!

How to Make a Good Living as a Busker

How to make a good living busking: 1) Sound wonderful by also spreading joy and sending prayers out to everyone, and making sure you're having a good time. When I busked, as I sang I often prayed and visualized that everyone who heard my voice was blessed and healed, and that everyone's dreams came true, harming none, and being of benefit to all. I also made sure I played songs that made me feel good, because I was there for many hours and also because I knew other people would feel my joy. People feel the energy of your intention, and I notice even now I can tell when a busker is playing just for the money, but also for the joy. You can feel it, and this makes all the difference in how you attract or repel tips. I mean, who doesn't want to pay for a blessing? Who isn't immediately attracted to joy? :-) 2) Have several full-length, quality albums to sell. Sell them at $12 each/2 for $20 or whatever the current rates are. You will not only sell more than one title at a time, but if your music is good, you will very likely make return and repeat customers of your new fans. 3) Keep a notebook and collect customers' email addresses to keep in touch about your gigs and goings on. 4) Be safe. Wear garments (preferably cargo pants or shorts) with large pocket for your wallet and profits packet. If you're making too much cash that will fit, use a backpack.Make sure your bags and cases are within view at all times. I prefer to make sure they can touch my legs at all times, or definitely that I can see them while I sing. Be aware of your surroundings. Be alert for people who are potentially dangerous or under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Make friends with the nearby police officers, as they'll be your allies in not only staying safe but also keeping passengers safe as you'll have a view of what's going on. I've many times been the one to call the police when someone's been ill or in danger. As a lady type I've had both the curse and the benefit of attracting the male element. Be aware of that, too, wimminfolk! :-) 5) Smile, have business cards, and/or other swag. 6) Always start with at least 2 singles in your case, one straight, and one crumpled so it looks like someone has already tipped you. Remove cash so that you always have a nice amount of tips in there, but not so much that someone could swipe a handful of your hard-earned 10s and 20s. 7) Be grateful for all the "tips" you receive. I've gotten smiles, hugs, homemade cookies, concert tickets, a beautiful and large clear quartz crystal, winning lottery ticket (of $5, but still!), and well-wishes, along with plenty of beautiful green cash! [This picture was taken circa 2005-2006 in Philadelphia's Suburban Station by my dear friend and frequent violin accompanist Dorothea DiGiovanni.] Never let it be said!

Ladies, Talk Bitchy to Your Men - They Love It!

I've been wasting my time being nice to boys.
What is it about insults from a woman that make a guy like her more? In the book "How to Marry the Man of Your Choice" by Margaret Kent, she says men fall in love with and marry women who are kinda bitchy to them. And she explains why. (You'll have to read it for yourself, heh-heh!) Also, there are plenty of other books on this topic.
I've spent my whole life being sweet as pie to the male-types. but lately, as I've been a bloomin' other manners, I've also started speaking my mind without much softening when these testosterone carriers irked me.
Case in point, I was talking to a recent interest, who was lamenting his supposed loss of writerly status - believing he was no longer a writer because he was not currently writing. I told him to write me an essay on a particular topic (erotique if you must know) and send it to me via email. Then I said, "Once you hit 'send', then you'll be a f_ckin' writer, you _sshole."  When Old Cassendre worried about his feelings and asked, "Are you okay? Was I too mean when I said that?" he responded something like, "That was the perfect thing to say to me! I cannot tell you how much you hit the nail right on the head!"
And tonight I got a note from an old friend to whom I'd confessed yesterday, "And why are you such a pr_ck anyway?" His answer was a very detailed one beginning with, "The most endearing and heart-warming question I can recall being asked."
I'm in the company of a dear friend and former sweetie and asked him what's up with this phenomenon. I guessed, "Is it that you guys need us to be much higher than you so you can look up to us?" He laughed and said, "I dunno, maybe it has something to do with the fact that we're joking with them when we do it. It's almost like a term of endearment - that we feel close enough to them that we can say something like that to them." End quote :-)
I also think, having heard that, that it closely mirrors how men and boys joke with one another. Chyks go around being sweet with and complimenting one another. Men badger and f_ck with one another in ways that look downright painful to me. But I get it. They have to be tough to go out there and kill the beasts to feed us, and we have to be sweet to make the home lovely and clean the children. Or something, I dunno. What am I, a socio-anthropologist? For cryin' out loud :-)
Anyway, so, I'm glad I discovered this little trick. It happened by accident but you can bet I'm gonna make the most of it, Brilliant and Lovely Women of Distinction, and Sh_thead Deuds! (Just kiddin', kinda. :-) )
