Cassendre Xavier is a multi-media artist who coined the term "renaissance negresse" in 2002. Known mostly as a recording artist and author, she is the founder and director of Philadelphia's annual Black Women's Arts Festival (Est. 2003). www.BWAFphilly.org, www.cassEndrExavier.com
Dear Friends,
I trust all is well and that this note finds you feeling joyful or at least trying to feel better!
It's been months, I believe, since I've written this newsletter, and I've been busy as ever:
I've been working on the Black Women's Arts Festival. Newsletter coming soon, but you can read archived newsletters at our official website: http://BWAFphilly.org.
I've been doing a lot of reading and spiritual work. I've been trading energy shares and counseling sessions with former mentors who are now peers. I'm a Reiki Level I practitioner and plan to take a Level II class within the year. I also practice distant healings for people on a regular basis. If you'd ever like a distant healing, email me at artchyk@yahoo.com.
I'm still sharing my music, and affirmations at my official YouTube channel. I'm also uploading videos of me preparing raw meals and drinks there. Visit http://youtube.com/cassendrexavier.
In my raw vegan practice, I've made some progress and slid back in other ways. I recently went up to 238lbs, and recently weight in at 225. I've discovered the value and satisfying yumminess of greens+fruit salads. That's a fruitarian secret I hadn't known before. I also have now a raw vegan Overeaters Anonymous sponsor. You can read my Green Smoothie Raw Blog series at: http://cassendrexavier.blogspot.com.
I live in the Lansdowne suburbs now and it's a mixed blessing I will write about soon. It's to do with the lessons of self-sufficiency, and it's bittersweet, but the sweet is very sweet indeed and you know I'm the queen of blessing countage (aka "countery" :-)
I've also been WoManifesting things and situations very quickly and well. I see now that I'm on a path to become a spiritual teacher, author, and coach, and have been writing a monthly column for Wisdom Magazine's online edition since last year. You can read my current column and archives here: http://tinyurl.com/yh9e95c.
I've been releasing lots of fears and making breakthroughs in the creative and professional arena.
Even though I still have the dream of becoming a very successful musician and singer-songwriter, I know the time is now for me to learn to be self-sufficient in other ways – ways that will build up my body, mind, spirit, and finances to create the resources to supply what I need to make significant progress in music. That's what I think anyway, but as I try, I will note where the energy goes. If it's stagnant in my non-musical projects that I hope will earn me a good income while I serve folks in my spiritual work, then I will have to do something else, which will be to wholeheartedly throw myself into music first and foremost. You can see and hear my musical recordings and downloads at http://cdbaby.com/all/cassendre.
I'm starting to release a lot of my creative energy and trying to become the artist I've always wanted to be. My Own Natural Energy Yield = Money (according to Iyanla Vanzant) so I'm trying to put out as much of this natural energy as possible.
One of the first things I'm doing is designing online courses to teach and lead. If you'd like to be notified of these when they're released (in the next few weeks), please send a blank email to: cassendrexavier-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
Another thing I'm doing is preparing to offer sessions as a Creative Life Coach. I have been coaching folks since 1991 and am thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a service that I seem attuned to, and enjoy greatly. Like the classes, these take time to design. I'm even thinking about whether or not I am equipped emotionally to offer the same services to men that I offer women. I don't think so, and hadn't even considered this until yesterday when I came across a Creative Life Coach who works only with female clients. Given my abuse history with men in my childhood, and my almost 20 years of experience creating events and support groups for women, I think I may be a perfect candidate to offer coaching sessions to women only. I'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, no matter what gender you are, if you'd like to be notified when I'm offering Creative Life Coaching sessions, please send a blank email to: cassendrexavier-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
I've created a couple of pages to start getting more of my work out, to allow me to do the work I'm suited for to be of service. It'll take some time, and in the meantime, it seems I'm no longer suitable for the kinds of jobs I used to do before I had the courage to become a full-time artist. It's a longer story, detailed at my new Love Offering page, which includes not only nifty packages of CDs and original CX stationery you can order, but also a blank open "Love Offering" you can use to donate any amount to The Cause :-). My long-time dream of writing e-books and making them instantaneously available has finally come true! I have only one e-book posted right now, but I will soon have many, many more. I am currently finishing transcribing my first chapbook "secrets & lies: poetry and other words" (ARtivist Publications, 2005) which was sold at Robin's and Giovanni's Room bookstores, and now will be available worldwide at the click of a button! It includes my poems "to the 4' asian woman who swears she's so tough", "Be Coming Magical: a Blackwomyn's Journey, Or: How to Become a Witch When All Your Teachers are White", and "telegram to erotic from terror", the latter of which became the script to my play "Sex for Survivors" which ran for 3 days at the 2003 Philadelphia Fringe Festival and featured cellist/composer/vocalist Monica McIntyre, poet Samantha Barrow, and love activist/healing artist O aka Loretta Lynne Payne. You can keep tabs of my new e-books at: http://artivistebooks.eventbrite.com or http://tinyurl.com/24ou5fk.
And now for your Farewell Blessing:
May you be surrounded by love all ways.
May you know the strength of your potential.
May you remain present in the present.
May you stay focused in joy.
May you often have good-feeling thoughts.
May your dreams and wishes all come true (or something better), surpassing all your expectations, and may it be for the good of all.
In art, community, and gratitude,
Cassendre Xavier
